New Work 2015
Date: Thursday, January 29th 2015
This picture illustrates two very different directions I have been running in, getting ready for the big ACC winter show in February down in Baltimore. One direction is towards refinement with a minimalist design and only two colors- either black and white or black and charcoal gray. The other is towards a more rustic look with bulky, slubby yarns, an eclectic pattern and joyous, springy colors.
I usually start making and trying out new work in mid-fall. The wholesale orders are shipped and there are several late fall shows where I can try them out. The Allegro pattern and the two Stripes patterns developed out of the Dominoes pattern, new in 2014.
The Bulky pattern comes from color and weave patterns I've been doing for a long time. The yarns are different from what I have used in recent years. They come from my old stash, and are mostly newly dyed. This is likely to be a limited edition, as some of these yarns, like Country Silk from Crystal Palace Yarns, are no longer available. They are spun at a mill in Italy that seems to be still in business but I can't figure out how to find a source. (Filati Burrati, if anyone knows how to see what they spin for the small craft market, please get in touch with me.)
