Mosaic Shawl Kits

Hello fellow weavers and wearers of scarves. Now you can make your own Black and White Mosaic Shawl. One of my silk suppliers, Treenway Silks, has created a kit with instructions from me and silk yarn from them. They are selling well. We have another kit in the pipeline.

I’m very happy to be doing this. Over the years, I have not done much teaching, but I’ve developed many designs. I would like to share some of them with people who love weaving. I hope weavers will try my design or designs, and while they’re working, they’ll think of variations, small changes to make the next time. This is how creative work evolves. I,always studied work of weavers ahead of me when I was starting out. I didn’t copy, but took in what’s possible and pushed. Thank you Randy Darwall, Judith Bird, Juanita Girardin, Susan Neal, and all the others!

The kits are aimed at 8 harness weavers. Since I came back to doing shows in 2008, most of my work has been on 16 or more. I have an idea that I might sell these more complex patterns as digital downloads. Watch for this in 2026. The yarns are available at Treenway Silks. They have a huge assortment of hand-dyed colors, so it doesn’t have to be just black and white designs. Write to me, weaver@MuffyYoung.com, and tell me which patterns you’d like to see first. I’m thinking Allegro might be nice. All the Blocks pattern are fun too, and good jumping off places for creativity since they’re basically samplers. Branzino and New Wave are also good 16 shaft patterns.

I’ll be at American Craft Made in Baltimore this February. Stop in and say hi. If you get a kit and weave a shawl, be sure to bring it. We can have Mosaic show-and-tell.

Happy Holidays and have a safe and happy 2026.

Muffy
